17km 1:20:38 (NOMAN Ibiza-Barcelona, run session 7)
I really, really needed a run today! For the past few days, probably since Friday, I have been feeling really lethargic and achy. I’ve been starting to suffer with ‘taper madness’ too – phantom pains, a slightly moody demeanour and a negative outlook have been creeping in! Normally, if I’m tapering for an ultra I’ll lay off about 3 or 4 days beforehand. Therefore, I’m not sure why I thought grinding to a halt two weeks before flying out to Ibiza for my 200 mile ocean rowing race would be a good idea either physically or mentally – clearly it was not!
The conditions were perfect for an ‘on-feel’ run: light breeze, bright sunshine, blue sky, few pedestrians and little traffic. I didn’t check my watch once until around the 15km mark and as I was approaching home. I ended up running at MAF pace/HR which I’m very pleased with as I am kind of hoping to play it that way at the Grim Reaper 70 at the end of the month!
It’s good to feel normal again. It never ceases to amaze me what a good run can do for the mind, body and soul! Now, with only 7 days to go until I fly out to row across the Mediterranean Sea I’d really appreciate a show of support for the charity I’m representing and for me – please click the NOMAN logo below and consider donating a dollar, a pound, a yen or a rouble. It all helps with my motivation and with the work of the charity.
