8km 35:57 (NOMAN Ibiza-Barcelona, run session 6a)

*20 second rest*

1km 8:47 (NOMAN Ibiza-Barcelona, run session 6b)

*1 minute rest*

1km 4:12 (NOMAN Ibiza-Barcelona, run session 6c)

*14 days until the race*

I had a very long day at my staff conference. It’s also the hottest day of the year and, apparently, of the decade here in Hertfordshire (but I’m not sure about that). All I could think about all day was running! What can I say? Not only do I enjoy running ultras and training for them I also enjoy running in very difficult conditions.

I set myself a target of running 8km, on trail in 36:00. I hit my target. I felt pretty rough afterwards but elated so I set off immediately on a 1km recovery best effort power hike before then heading off on a best effort 1km road run to home! I’d like to think this is the closest I’ve come to specificity for Grim Reaper 70 training as that is on a 10 mile loop – today’s run was on 1.5km trail loop with some road thrown in at the end for good measure. The Reaper is mostly trail but also has road sections and from last year’s experience I’ll be incorporating more power hiking early on…

So, to conclude, today’s trail run was brought to you by 500ml water, a whole bucket of sweat, ice cubes in my hat and wristband and that pleasant feeling of hitting your time/distance target in tough conditions after a long day at a conference! 8km, 35:57, 4:24pkm avg, 166bpm avg HR.

Oh, and in case you’re wondering why I’ve not been on the ergo/rowing machine lately, it’s because my one month gym membership ran out and I’m not inclined to spend any more of my limited funds on renewing it with only two weeks until I fly out to Ibiza and 18 days until the race itself. From this point forward my training is now back to running and doing light weights and core work at home! I’m sure it’ll be fine…
