8km 35:10 (NOMAN Ibiza-Barcelona, run session 4)
*19 days until the race*
A testing road run in the heat and humidity. I chose a route with some difficult climbs as I felt the need to push it this evening after choosing to skip my planned rowing machine session! What can I say, my legs are feeling strong and the urge to run is returning. The way I’m justifying missing a rowing session is that it’s like a mini-taper – I’ll be on the water, in the race boat, from 1000-1630hrs on Sunday so I want to be as fresh as possible for it…
On the subject of rowing and preparing for the NOMAN race I thought I’d share with you all a quote about cancer that I came across yesterday. I’m rowing because the following quote was written in 1914 and the search, the research and the experimentation to find a cure for cancer is still going strong as is cancer itself. The HPV vaccine could and should be considered a real breakthrough in the search for this cure, this hallowed end to the rule of the Emperor of All Maladies. Please do consider clicking the NOMAN logo at the end of the post and donating even a small sum to the cause!
“Throughout the centuries the sufferer from this disease has been the subject of almost every conceivable form of experimentation. The fields and forests, the apothecary store and the temple, have been ransacked for some successful means of relief from this intractable malady. Hardly any animal has escaped making its contribution, in hair or hide, tooth or toenail, thymus or thyroid, liver or spleen, in the vain search by man for a means of relief.”
William Bainbridge, ‘The Cancer Problem’ (1914)
