8km 34:19 (NOMAN Ibiza-Barcelona, run session 2)

*24 days until the race*

I’m sitting here sipping a well earned beer this evening. I’ve had a very productive Sunday tackling some rowing admin, catching up with my best friend in Melbourne and doing the good son thing on Father’s day!

1000-1700hrs – completed my navigation course

1200-1245hrs – spoke to my best mate in Melbourne

1800-2000hrs – cooked dinner for my Dad and brother

2030hrs – did my housework

2123hrs (sunset) – went for 8km, Summer Solstice Sunset road run

Thank you to my Dad (and my brother) for their enduring support of my quest to find my physical and mental limits!

My run turned out 2:07 faster than Friday’s trail 8km but I pushed too hard trying to run 31:15 and really suffered between 6 and 7km. That said, I still really enjoyed running on the road this evening and it gave me a little time, pre-pain cave, to think about what races I might like to do later this year after my ocean row and after the Grim Reaper 70. My shortlist has three options: Self-Transcendence 24hr Track Race (19th September), Centurion Autumn 100 (October 9th) or Dublin Marathon on my birthday (October 26th). I need to make my mind up about the track race as entries close for consideration on July 15th and I may not even get a spot – it’s all based on potential and previous ultras?!

Anyway, I digress, right now in all honesty my focus is fully on the NOMAN race. I cannot believe the time has flown by so quickly! I am certainly going to get back on the rowing machine this week and I’m also making an appointment to see my favourite physio, Anna McCann, at Kingsfield Centre for Physiotherapy for a pre-race check-up and tune-up. In addition, I’m going to become reacquainted with my old friend the foam roller as I’ve been feeling pretty battered, taut and achy over the past few days.

Hope you’ve all had a great weekend. Thank you to everyone for continuing to read my blog, thank you for your kind words, donations and deeds to date also – it all helps me to keep my head up and to keep on keeping on for this monumental race in aid of the amazing NOMAN Campaign.
