2025m 41:36 (49:44 with stoppages) (NOMAN Ibiza-Barcelona, swim session 6)

*30 days until the race*

L‘enfer, c’est les autres

This is the second consecutive swim workout that I’ve had to cut short due to other people. Therefore, the sub-title of this post is Sartre’s famous quote. Hell can indeed be other people.

This time I wasn’t hauled out of the pool early for no real reason, no, this time the pool was full of swimmers who should have been divided into fast and slow lanes but who instead just splashed, swam and sprinted amok all over whilst I tried to maintain a steady 4km swim pace.

After about 35 laps someone slammed head on into me and almost dislocated my ring finger. It is now swollen and painful. It will be fine though. I’m just not happy right now so I should probably sign off for the evening, strap up my finger listen to Pantera Live: 101 Proof (I find it cathartic and calming in situations like this) and eat some dinner!

Tomorrow after work I’ll be doing some navigation course before meeting a friend in the pub for a while. Wednesday I’ll be hitting the ergo for two hours but man oh man, I really want to log a 4km and then a 2 hour swim soon!

But, in the case of endurance sport one thing remains true: Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional – smile and get on with it!
