8km 43:42 (Ox Ultra, session 10)

Today was a day for running really easy and really measured! I succeeded on both counts: 5:30, 5:28, 5:27, 5:27, 5:28, 5:28, 5:26 and 5:27 on each klick.

It was great to be tapping out the k’s at a consistent rhythm and had the option to run further been present I would have likely taken it! Alas, I was running around the trail at the edge of the field which sits at the top of my street so I decided to call it a day as I approached 7.65km – it’s a 350m stroll to my front door from there.

In other news, it was great to watch my favourite endurance athlete Paula Radcliffe, run her final London marathon earlier in the day – she is such an inspiration to me and reading her book back in 2011 really brought out my competitive side when it comes to running. ‘My Story So Far’ really did awaken something inside of me that made me want to actually race and to train to the best of my ability and I have read it every year since – I’m hoping that now she has officially ‘retired’ from elite racing she will release another edition simply entitled ‘My Story’.

In yet other news, I have been scouring the web for races I can run after Ox Ultra and before Grim Reaper 70 on July 31st. I am committed to a five mile trail race that I ran last June but I would really like to run a road or trail half marathon too! I’m going to see how the Ox pans out before deciding on anything though. I will admit that at the moment I’m wondering if the Grim Reaper 70 will be going ahead at all as the race website has been down since February, no tweets from the RD since late January and nothing posted on Facebook or e-mailed out since then either…I have my eye on a 12 hour event and a couple of 100k races that would serve as decent replacements in my racing schedule should the worst happen. And, finally, I will be be throwing my hat into the ring to become an official aid station or finish line volunteer at this year’s UTMB – it’s something that I’ve always wanted to do and because I’d like to run my first 100 miler in America next year it’s something I actually have to do because I’m now looking at The Wasatch Front 100 as my first…it’s a qualifier for Hardrock!

I hope the weekend has treated you all very well and I hope the week ahead is bright too!

Peace & Blessings x
