Workout Soundtrack: Hein Braat – Surya Mantras
3.2km 13:49 (Frankfurt Marathon, session 5)
I don’t have much to say today apart from a run is better than no run!
I went to bed late as I was caught up in reading Anna Karenina and I woke early to speak to Gabrielle who has been in Bali (Indonesia) for two weeks – I’ll readily admit I’m looking forward to her return on Monday! But I digress! So, after five and a half hours sleep and a few text messages between hemispheres I got out of bed fully intending to get back in it after grabbing some water. Best intentions aside I saw my running shoes by the front door and couldn’t resist getting it together and getting out of the door much earlier than I had planned to today!
I set off having completed a core and upper body workout and a round of precautionary exercises to ease any pressure on my trapped nerve(s). The first 1.5km felt great but from 1.65km I felt the familiar twinge and twitch in my right gluteal muscle followed by a slowly increasing discomfort in my right knee. So instead of running my planned 5km I slowed it down and concentrated on getting back to my front door without aggravating my nerves any further. 3.2km later I stopped outside my house and almost immediately my knee loosened up and my muscles stopped twitching.
At this point I’m glad I told myself that undertraining for the Frankfurt Marathon is acceptable! It really does look like I’ll have barely covered 42 training klicks before the gun goes off on October 26th.
Oh well, as I said at the start of this post: you only regret the workouts you don’t do!
