Workout Soundtrack: –
4.25km 16:15 (Westminster Mile, session 8)
I was up early this morning and putting in some travel itinerary planning for Frankfurt in October – so far the plan is to fly out of London Heathrow at 0700hrs on Friday 24th and to return from Frankfurt Main at 1940hrs on Tuesday 28th. It’s going to be an amazing birthday trip and I am really feeling energised about my chances of getting a PR in the marathon on 26th, the course is renowned as being flat and fast…my training is certainly focusing on speed at this early stage!
Speaking of training, I’m trying something new this time around and following some advice that I’ve read about in various places – I’m incorporating races of different distances right up to the month before Frankfurt. Today I have added a five mile race in June and a half marathon in August, I’m likely to focus on intervals and hill repeats during September and then start my taper with easy running and swimming as October begins!
Today’s run was unexpectedly quick! Granted, I set out with the idea of doing a fast 3km and I duly succeeded with that but I felt so good that I decided to carry on to home and the 4km marker, leaving the last 250m as a warm down jog/stride/stretch. I was pretty impressed with my splits considering I was feeling really tired before I set out, in fact it was a bit of struggle to get out the door this evening – the knowledge I’m returning to work tomorrow after two weeks off was weighing heavy but I called on my usual mantra for this situation:
You only regret the workouts you don’t do and life is hard enough without regrets!
So it was that I ran 3:51, 3:38, 3:39 and 3:38 for my 4km speed session! There were certainly no regrets after that effort, just a feeling of joy and happiness that my training is really starting to take off – it feels so much more together, focused and most importantly, more fun than my Pisa Marathon training cycle. There is clearly a lot of hard work to be done in the next five months if I’m to finish with a sub 3:00 in Frankfurt but, unlike Pisa, I’m not dreading the workouts that are on the horizon.
No, I’m relishing the workouts that are coming!
With that dear reader, I’m signing off for today. I hope you are also enjoying your running and/or current training cycle! Keep on keeping on people 🙂
Peace & Blessings x
