I’ve just entered the 2nd annual Bupa Westminster Mile with Gabrielle!
We will be toeing the line together for the first time (of hopefully many) on Saturday 24th May!
It’s going to be a great day out and I’m hoping to run a sub 5 minute mile. Gabrielle has put herself down for…oh, nope, I’m not allowed to say due to the ever present modesty! Anyway, here’s hoping for a sunny and warm day so we can go for a self-congratulatory picnic and snooze in Hyde Park afterwards!
Here is a bit of information from the official race website:
The Bupa Westminster Mile is held on the most iconic mile in the world, starting on The Mall and finishing in front of Buckingham Palace. This year we are celebrating the 60th anniversary of Sir Roger Bannister becoming the first man to break the four-minute mile and Diane Leather becoming the first woman to run a mile in under five minutes. On Saturday 24 May Paralympic legend David Weir will attempt to join them in the history books and become the first athlete to complete a mile in under three minutes.
Worry ye not though dear reader! I am not about to give up on long distance running at all – this is just a bit of fun to help me tune up my speed for Frankfurt in October! I’ll sign off this post with a quote that rings very true from the late, great Emil Zapotek:
If you want to run, run a mile. If you want to experience a different life, run a marathon.
PEACE & BLESSINGS x
