Good day to you dearest and most venerable reader!
I thought it would be a good idea to keep you in the loop so you don’t think I’ve decided to abandon the blog, training, running, swimming and the life I love so much!
I haven’t done any training since Monday 21st April – NINE days with no cardio and no strength & conditioning! I woke up feeling pretty crappy on Tuesday 22nd April but didn’t think much of it and carried on my working day like usual, Wednesday was much the same but on Thursday I felt extremely lethargic and a bit feverish towards the end of my shift – I thought nothing of it though and went back in the next day to find the feelings of lethargy and fever presenting themselves again but early in the shift.
I put this down to tiredness and a bit of external stress – work has been a bit hectic and mentally draining since I talked a suicidal person down (safely) from our roof a few weeks ago. This being the case I requested some extended time off from my boss and this was due to begin on Monday 28th April and see me returning to work on Thursday 8th April – my request was granted and I plodded on home feeling a little more relaxed but still pretty run down. Well, my leave started two days earlier after I woke to find my fever much worse on Saturday morning. I was due to go in to work for a Late shift but began to feel nauseous around midday which is when I would normally leave – I called in sick (which I hate to do and something I very rarely do) and suggested cover be found for my Sunday shift too.
So, here I sit, it’s Wednesday 30th April and I’m feeling less feverish but still quite lethargic with aching muscles to boot! I took a rare decision to visit the doctor on Monday and have been prescribed some pretty heavy antibiotics to fight the infection that it turns out I have – they are working well and I’m beginning to feel much better. I’m going to take it easy over the next few days and the coming weekend and try to sleep as much as I can, I hope to be back out on the road on Monday or Tuesday!
I haven’t been totally out of the running game during my down time! I’ve sorted out a new race schedule which will see my run my local 10km road race on July 6th and I’m hoping to better my 12th place from my first attempt back in 2012! Then, later in the year I will be flying out to run the Frankfurt Marathon in Germany on the day of my 31st birthday – my first ‘big city marathon’ and my first IAAF Gold Label road race! I am so excited and I’m looking forward to getting out there and trying to run as close to 3:00:00 as I possibly can! Watch this space as I’ll be adding a few more road races between July 6th and October 26th…
Finally, I indulged in some retail therapy yesterday and purchased a new pair of running shoes for my road based training and, eventually, for the Frankfurt Marathon itself…
Ladies & Gentlemen, without further ado, I give you my first ever pair of Mizuno (<3):
Peace & Blessings
