Workout Soundtrack: Slam Radio Podcast – ‘James Ruskin – #73’
9.25km 40:31 (Shires & Spires Ultra, session 6)
Today is my only day off from work this week but as I’m so busy it really doesn’t feel like it! I was tempted to skip a swim or a run today but the thought made me feel guilty so after running my myriad errands this morning and early afternoon I decided to pull on the running gear and get out for an hour or so. After all, I had just taken my mountain bike down to the local supermarket to pick up some stuff for the dog and for dinner so I was nicely warmed up!
The sun was shining and a pretty cold wind was blowing as I set off. Almost immediately I began to feel uncomfortable, not because of the wind, it was because my legs felt heavier than usual and for some reason I couldn’t quite get my arm placement right. For around 5 or 6km my left arm just felt unnaturally positioned the and as such it began to cramp up around my shoulder after a while. It pains me to say it but I don’t think I enjoyed any part of that run at all which is a rarity for me – I’ll usually pull some positive from a session and expand on it but the only thing I can think to say is that over the last 1.5km or so I began to feel like my usual running self again. I would’ve carried on had my mind not been completely shot by everything that went before it!
So, a crap pool session yesterday and a crap run today. When these things happen I always have to remind myself ‘They can’t all be good!’ and with that being the case, I need to keep my chin up and just keep on keeping on! I’ll be hitting the pool again tomorrow before work and then going for a night run on Sunday before hitting the sauna. Hopefully things will pick up and I’ll start grinding out my workouts with my usual panache by next week!
