Workout Soundtrack: –

8.01km 35:23 (Shires & Spires Ultra, session 3)

What a lovely day for a run! Lovely, that is, if you’re a masochist and find running into headwind for the majority of your route an exciting prospect.

As I went to sleep last night the wind was gusting up to 75mph and as I live on the top floor of a house the power of it was quite evident – it was howling and sounded fierce! I woke up to much the same sound this morning and lay in bed deciding whether or not to head to the pool, have a lie-in or just get up and get out for a run!

It took a while but after getting out of bed and checking the timetable for my local pool I decided against that idea as Saturday morning the majority of the pool is taken over by the local swim team and, as I was up and about a lie-in would mean reversing my processes and getting back in bed – this never ever happens because once I’m up that’s it, it’s time to get on with the day! So, I made my coffee and threw on my running gear and at the list minute I decided to add my Mountain Equipment beanie hat to the chest pocket of my running pack.

The first two klicks of my run were not bad at all, the wind was howling but it was at my back so helped along quite nicely but then I turned a corner and was battered for about 2.5 klicks by crosswinds – at times I felt like I might be blown into walls, fences or even just off my feet! This was not to get any better as I turned yet another corner and was faced with the runners worst enemy – headwinds. After running into this for about 800m my face was extremely cold and my hair was beginning to drip very cold sweat down the back of my neck and side of my face, this is when I became very thankful for my beanie! For three kilometres I battled as hard as I could to keep up the pace but it is so draining running into strong headwinds, I don’t think I did too badly but I’m feeling the effort now. I’m very much looking forward to a relaxing bath before heading to my Late shift!

The weather should be a lot calmer tomorrow so tomorrow’s run should be a little quicker than today’s effort. We shall see I suppose, weather forecasting after all is not an exact science!

Enjoy your weekend dear reader, hope the weather isn’t too bad where you are 🙂

Peace & Blessings x
