This morning I was toying with tiredness as I got up for my Late shift! I wasn’t near fully awake until around midday (my shift starts at 0800hrs) and once I had my lunch at 1300hrs I again became very lethargic – this time instead of toying with tiredness and I had to actively combat it to stay in the work game! I really put a lot of effort into the last three hours of my shift to stay alert, engage in conversation and not make a million typos…needless to say really but I fell in and out of sleep on the two trains I take home and was lucky not to miss my stop!
I dragged my tired and sorry ass the kilometre home, fed the dog and immediately put on some pretty loud techno as the house was empty – all I wanted to do at this point was to flop down on my bed and drop out of existence for a few hours but instead I pulled on my workout singlet and shorts and hit the deck for a 4 minute plank (my best to date). This kick started my inner athlete and I jumped up and took on 5o squats before lifting the dumbbells for a short weights session. The techno, the muscle movements and the 4 minute PR woke me right up and after drinking some water and a green tea followed by brushing my teeth I picked up my swim bag and headed out with the intention of swimming my pool mile (1650m/66 laps)!
I arrived at the pool and four, yes FOUR, lanes were set aside for fast swimmers in addition to this piece of great news there was only one other swimmer in the pool so I rushed in and made the most of it. I was obviously still feeling some tiredness and my arms were aching a little from my workout so I took it easy, going through 40 laps in 20:04 and trying my best to speed it up for the final 26 laps and I think I marginally succeeded in that up until around lap 63 when my legs started to cramp a little – because of this little setback I can’t say it was a fantastic swim but it was pretty great and I got out feeling happy that I’d decided to get it done instead of dropping out and going to bed after my strength and conditioning workout! I spent half an hour in the sauna and managed to drink a litre of water – this was mostly to keep myself alert and awake!
With that dear reader I will leave you for the day! The time has come for me to eat some dinner and to relax a little before hitting the sack – up again at 0500hrs for yet another Early shift. Tomorrow I’ll keep fighting the good fight against tiredness as I promised my friend we’d hit the pool together after work – I’m keeping it in mind that I can rest on Saturday and not before 🙂
Peace & Blessings
