Workout Soundtrack: Janis Joplin – ‘Farewell Songs’ (on the way to and back from the pool)

1.5km tempo (untimed) (to pool)

and

50m warm-up (freestyle)

40x25m (freestyle) 19:20

100m warm-down (freestyle/breaststroke/freestyle/breaststroke)

and

1.5km tempo (untimed) (to home)

I was breaking no records today – I woke early and was the first in the pool after a short, hard run! I mechanically and dutifully completed my kilometre laps, all the while thinking about how much I was going to love hitting the sauna and steam room!

Oh how much I loved getting up there to find both facilities empty, hot and peaceful – I spent 40 minutes in the sauna followed by 15 in the steam room and then felt like I had just enough energy left to grind out another 1.5km tempo run back home. I’d say that although my swim and my runs weren’t particularly fast this was a really enjoyable early Sunday morning workout and one  I hope to emulate regularly when the opportunities arise.

I’m staying around to work Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Years Eve and New Years Day. This is usually something I enjoy doing and not just because of the double pay but this year it seems a bit strange and quite a bit more stressful – I think it’s because I’m used to working with the street homeless and this is my first Christmas working in a residential mental health setting…who knows! Anyway, I’m sure I’ll make the most of it!

Peace Out x
