Workout Soundtrack: –
I was eager to get out the door on my return home from work this evening! So much so that I didn’t really do a warm-up at all…unless you count watching the Women’s 3000m Steeplechase Final and doing some slow dynamic stretching as a warm-up!
I walked through my front door to be greeted with a package from an eBay seller – I am now the proud owner of a pretty much brand new Garmin Forerunner 110. This was the reason for my desire to get out quickly! Alas, when I opened up the box and tried to switch the watch on I found that the seller was rather fastidious and had run down the battery. I plugged it in and slowly watched the battery meter begin to fill up, I thought naively that it would be ready to rock and roll within 15 minutes – not so.
The run I did was pretty good, I felt a little bit of pain in my side during the run so I know I’ll need to work on my breathing again to level it out. The pain began to increase around the 3km mark as I tried to wind up the pace – I had in mind an attempt at my long standing PB for a 5km road run (17:57) but I knew as I turned into the final kilometre stretch that I wouldn’t make that. I was, however, pleasantly surprised after my 250m final sprint to have come in under 20 minutes and just 2 minutes under my PB. With a little more speed work, and some Garmin pace guidance I think I’ll be able to beat my PB before my December 16th marathon!
Speaking of the Pisa Marathon, I got the ‘good to go’ from my boss this afternoon – I’ve been granted the 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th of December off work! I will now be able to fly out, race, fly back and get in a bit of recovery before returning to work for the Christmas period! I’ll be booking my place and my flights on August 25th!
