Workout Soundtrack: Adam Beyer presents Drumcode Live from Space, Ibiza
I feel it’s going to take quite a bit of getting used to this working/training malarkey! I was super tired at work today but coffee and muesli got me through the morning and a small portion of chips got me through the rest of my shift with yet more coffee!
I devoured a granola bar, another cup of coffee and 500ml of water on the train to my run start point…in hindsight I don’t think I needed the coffee! Let’s just say my bowels did not appreciate it after about 5km of running and I was doing my damnedest to hold on until I got home! Not a pretty thing to write about but the truth is so often more interesting than fiction.
So, bowels aside, another thing I’m going to have to figure out as my runs become longer is how to get the weight of my pack down. I think the only real options I have to achieve this are:
- to leave a couple sets of clothes at work and
- wear a pair of jogging bottoms, a sweater and my running shoes to work each day, changing into them at the end of the shift with my running clothes underneath
- and, finally, purchase a running-specific back pack.
Anyway, the run home was pretty good with all of the above considered. I jumped into a very cold bath for 14 minutes after refuelling with one of my homemade smoothies (banana, avocado, ginger and almond milk) which got rid of the tiredness and the risk of swelling in my legs/feet. No swimming tonight as I’m off to have dinner with my Dad – I feel it’s a good idea to have a work/training/family balance and to get this into my routine as early as possible before my work/training becomes everything I have!
Tomorrow – 20 x 25m in the pool and, possibly, a trail ride on the bike (if I see my friend I mentioned yesterday).
